Martin Luther King Jr. is by far the most important and successful civil rights leader in U.S. history. He solved civil rights issues most effectively by using non-violent protests. As always, there were non-progressive people that disagreed with Luther, and they sparked much controversy. Because of this, he was assassinated.

MLK Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968. Martin Luther was a Baptist minister. Martin Luther King had led the Civil Rights movement. He was shot on the second story of a motel in Memphis Tennessee. James Earl Ray shot MLK Jr., and the victim soon became injured. He was sent to St. Joseph's hospital and pronounced dead around 7:00 PM CST.

He was there for some type of civil rights march and was they to take a stand. He was assassinated while he was standing up next to a couple friends. As he was getting up to get something, someone shot him and he died. Today marks 50 years ago when a major Civil Rights activist died

On this day, in 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. MLKJ was a leader of the civil rights movement, and was the big voice of the segregated people of America. While so many people had been behind his ideas, there were others who wanted to stop his dreams, on of those people had been James Earl Ray. This was the man who shot Martin Luther King Jr. James wanted to stop the movement by killing its big leader, but he failed. MLKJ's dreams are still carried today and are being fulfilled.

On April 4th, 1968, James Earl Ray fired a fateful shot from his Remington 760 Gamemaster and delivered the fateful blow to reverend Martin Luther King Jr. His words of encouragement and compassion inspired many generations of people to bring about changes. His powerful speeches drove many to tears and to fight harder against segregation. He organized many boycotts, sit-ins, and nonviolent protest. His efforts later caused Jim Crowe laws to end and segregation to be abolished.

Martin stopped pastoring the church in Alabama to be a full time civil rights leader. Martin was killed at the lorrain hotel on April 3, 1968. This assassination really sparked more protest and other civil rights leaders to fullfil Martin's dreams and visions.
