They are made because you cant be born with that talent you have to work hard to get what you want. You have to practice you don't just get born with that talent

I think it takes a little of both sides. No, you cant just be born an amazing basketball player, but you can be born with better traits for basketball. For example, if you're born and you end up being 4'8, you probably aren't going to be a professional basketball player.

In my opinion, I believe athletes are made. Yes, your mom and dad may both be all-star athletes at what they did "back in the day", but that doesn't make you an all star athlete. You may not even know half of what the sport is about.

I believe it is a mixture of both. the article stated that "They are two guys who are basically at the same athletic place through two completely different paths" which means that it depends on your genetic if you are naturally good at something or not the article also states "intense practice hones natural athletic skills -- skills that may be useless at something we haven't practiced."

Elite athletes are somewhat both. They can be born with god given speed, strength, height ect. But they can be made to be even better because they already have the tools to be great they just have to know how to use them.

I feel as if it can go both ways because the article states that two Olympians were going for gold and one trained for 20 years and lost and the other one was doing it for only 8 months. Also have to look at people like Lebron he was obviously born with that talent.

Athletes are made in my opinion. Even if you have the perfect body for any sport you can think of, if you don't put in the proper practice and work that will not matter.

I believe athletes are made, not born because it takes sacrifice, hours of practice and determination to become one. In the article it states "The basic idea is that there is no inborn, innate talent," said McLaughlin. "That people have to kind of foster their own abilities through deliberate practice."

In my opinion, I think it has a little to do with both. The article made a good point by stating that people take practice differently. One can spend forever at trying to perfect something but if you aren't trying hard enough then it does no good. Yet, someone who has trained for something for 3 months can be just as good as someone who has trained for 3 years.

i believe that athletes are made because you are not born perfect and with all the knowledge in the world because when you are born you know nothing and as you start to grew you start to learn, so when you become interested in something like football or basketball you are not naturally good at it you have to practice and put hard work and developed your skills

I believe that athletes are made into the athletes they are today. You would have to practice and practice to become a good athlete or something that you love to do. McLaughlin states "The basic idea is that there is no inborn, innate talent." He also states Genes that tailor-make a body for one sport -- and create some unusual proportions. Genetic gifts for one sport don't mean much across sports.

Some athletes are born with great genetics while others are made through hard work. For example an athlete that comes to mind when winning the genetic pool is LeBron James. Lebron is 6'8 260 pounds and is one of the fastest players in the NBA. Then you have a guy like Steph curry. An elite athlete based on the 10,000 hour rule. Steph curry is in the NBA based on his ability to shoot the basketball. Not the most athletic guy in the world but honed his skills to be where he is.

I believe that athletes are born and made. Some athletes are born and are automatically good at a sport like the guy mentioned in the article that went to the Olympics after he just started practicing that sport 8 months before. Some athletes on the other hand can practice all they want and still not become pro because of their genes.

Are athletes born or made? I think that is a hard question to answer. Although most things that people are good at they need to be taught first some people are just naturally good at things. Also some people are born and built better for sports. Now that can be height build and endurance. All of these things contribute to how someone plays sports, but if people were not taught to play said sports then they wouldnt exactly be able to practice to get better.

Kaylee: I believe that athletes are born, because people who are like 7ft tall are more likely to be better at basketball than someone who is 5ft tall. This isn't always the case, but it is most of the time. Also, gymnast who are shorter have an easier time flipping through the air than someone taller. You can't become a sumo wrestler if you weigh less than 200 pounds.

Both because it takes time to train but you can also be born with those qualities to make that sport easier

I think that athletes are both made and born because honestly you can be born a good sports player but then at the same time you have to work towards begin an all star at the sports you play.
